Houri Alavi has been interested in acupuncture for gynaecology and obstetrics for many years. Since qualifying, she has undertaken postgraduate training in acupuncture for fertility, pregnancy and childbirth, and worked consistently in this field. She has a particular interest in how acupuncture can support emotional health through conception, pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period.

Houri is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and graduated from the College of Traditional Acupuncture, Leamington Spa. She was a co-ordinator for the BAcC Regional Group from 2002-2005, and is a founder member of the Brighton and Hove Natural Fertility Centre which was set up in 2005. She has established close links with local hospitals, gynaecology and fertility clinics, consultants, midwives and nurses, and frequently integrates acupuncture alongside medical treatments.
